NEW HAVEN OPEN AT YALE OFF-COURT EVENTS TO FEATURE FOOD, FASHION AND FUN FOR FANS OF ALL AGES

Fight Against Breast Cancer Remains Top Priority with the Return of the CYBEX Pink Ribbon Run

NEW HAVEN, Conn., Aug. 10, 2012 – The New Haven Open at Yale presented by First Niagara, a WTA event that is part of the Emirates Airline US Open Series and will be held August 17-25 at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale, will see the return of numerous off-court events designed to enhance the fan experience and continue the fight against breast cancer through multiple initiatives to benefit Smilow Cancer Hospital Breast Center at Yale-New Haven.

The New Haven Open will once again feature the CYBEX Pink Ribbon Run sponsored by Healthtrax during the tournament. The Pink Ribbon Run will offer players, fans, sponsors and media the opportunity to walk or run on a special pink treadmill to raise funds for breast cancer. For every mile logged, donations will be made to the Smilow Cancer Hospital Breast Center at Yale-New Haven. Anyone can make a donation for each mile logged on the treadmill, or make a lump sum donation, by emailing pinkribbonrun@newhavenopen.com.

In addition, the pink treadmill, which will be signed by the WTA players, will be auctioned off after the New Haven Open. Starting on August 19, bids may be placed on www.charitybuzz.com. All proceeds will be donated to the Smilow Cancer Hospital Breast Center at Yale-New Haven.  Breast cancer initiatives instituted at the 2011 New Haven Open raised $25,000 for charities.

In addition to the breast cancer initiatives, other off-court events include the ever-popular New Haven Food & Wine Festival. The Grand Tasting (Wednesday, August 22, 5:00-7:30 p.m.) returns for its fifth anniversary and will feature dishes from more than 20 of New Haven’s international, award-winning restaurants. Local chefs will offer diners a chance to sample menu items complemented by wine pairings. Tickets for this event are $125 and include a box seat ticket to the evening’s matches.

Also returning is the Vineyard Vines Ladies Day Luncheon and Fashion Show hosted by Island Time (Thursday, August 23, 11:30-1:00 p.m.). This lively luncheon will feature a tasty menu created by beloved local chef Claire Criscuolo, a pioneer of New Haven’s organic and sustainable food movement and owner of New Haven’s legendary Claire’s Corner Copia. Following lunch, the ladies will enjoy a fashion show as Island Time debuts Vineyard Vines’ “back to school” styles for fall 2012.  Tables of six are $570 and individual tickets are $100.  Tickets include admission to the fashion show, lunch, a box seat for the afternoon matches, a gift bag and door prizes.

Tickets are selling fast for both the Grand Tasting and the Vineyard Vines Ladies Day Luncheon and Fashion Show, so get yours today!
